Puppies are the cutest and sweetest creatures you can have to train or teach. Training puppies is simpler than to train dogs for two reasons. One being since it is young it picks up commands faster than the grown dogs who need to unlearn previously learned stuff. Secondly, puppies can establish rapport with the trainer more easily then a grown dog which facilitates training puppies immensely. This is because a puppy’s initial contact and the subsequent ones over the period of time are with the same person who breeds familiarity and intimacy.
You may need to buy leash and a collar for your dog so that you can do the most important task necessary for its well being and exercise- walk it. This should commence in the first month itself because the pup is more open to exploring new things and creating new habits and behavior around this time. You need to fill its life with rich experiences so that it is molded in a well-defined manner. You also need to get a health check up of your pup at the vet in the first month itself so as to become aware of any health issues that may interfere with training. You need to get your pup vaccinated as well.
Depending on how many members of the family are going to actively participate in the training program, you need to divide the task amongst yourselves. At this stage it is important that all members are equally firm and generous at the same time with the pup. The notions of yes and no should be made clear to the pup unanimously. Moreover, you also need to be consistent with the training program.
You need to clearly assign places to defecate, eat and sleep to your pup so that familiarizes with the environment easily. The timings also need to be made clear mainly with respect to eating, going out, playing and training. There should be a clear supervision of what food is your pup eating and how much.
Leash and collar are a good help in the training period and when nobody is at home so as to prevent the minor accidents from befalling the pup. Make sure your pup socializes with people around it from the beginning itself.
Make sure training puppies provide ample encouragement in the form of timely rewards for positive reinforcement. A gentle tug helps to boost the confidence of the pup and to establish the intimate relationship between the master and the pup.
